The fifth annual Mardi Gras Party sponsored by the Christmas Lights Committee will be held on Saturday, February 18th starting at 8:00 PM in the converted New Orleans Valhalla Lodge.
Bill Holtman’s “Jazzmerized Band” will play classical Dixieland music for the fifth time. The band has played in Cincinnati whenever the “Tall Stacks” arrive. Bill and Amy Gilbert originated the first Mardi Gras Party. Bill will do some solos and, if you close your eyes, you’ll think Louie Armstrong has come to Lakengren.
The restaurant will be open and serving New Orleans special dinners and finger food such as spicy egg rolls during the evening.
Revelers can bring their own favorite beverages, drinking glasses, etc. Several ice stations will be available.
There will be prizes for the best costumes, door prizes, beads showering down from the balcony and a happy winner of the 50/50.
Marilia Pimenta, our “Brazilian Bombshell,” initiated having the fourth party last year and was in charge of converting the Lodge into a New Orleans Street scene. This year, she plans to decorate the balcony. If you wish to help her, call her at 214-642-0838. We did not ask her husband, Yanni, who is from Finland, how he contributes to the Mardi Gras decorations. He is a fun guy and they are great dancers.
The cost is $10.00 per person. The tickets can be purchased at the LPOA office, at Scotty’s Lakeside Café or at the door. If a group purchases 8-10 tickets at one time at the office or Scotty’s, they can have a table reserved on the dance floor or balcony. Since all the doors are open in the Lodge, the revelers must visit the ticket table, sign the register which is used for door prizes and have their hands stamped. Restaurant diners will be asked to pay the admission charge of $10.00 after 9:15 PM.
There will be the crowning of the new king and queen. The previous king and queens were Andrew & Dawn Gaydosh, Dan & Pat McElwee, Jerry Spaeth & Janet Davis, and Gerald & Wilma Estes.
To get into the festive mood, check out Mardi Gras on the internet and go to the party supply shops like the Factory Card Outlet in Richmond or the one on the southwest corner of Springboro Pike and Route 725 in Dayton.
