Lakengren News by Paul Healy and Associates
FROM THE LAKENGREN OFFICE
The Lakengren Office will be closed Monday, December 29, 2008 through Friday, January 2, 2009 to make the move to the new office. Payments and correspondence may be dropped off at the Guardhouse during this time.
Lakengren Office operating hours will resume Monday, January 5, 2009. Our office hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Also, because of the new location and the added security it provides, the office will no longer close an hour for lunch unless necessary due to employee absences. The phone number will remain the same (937/456-3173). Our new address will be 22 W. Lakengren Drive.
A special thanks goes to the LWA for the donation of their gently used office desks to be used by our office staff in the new office.
To the family of Gladys Preston, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Gladys was very special and an active Lakengren community member and she will be dearly missed
TEEN HOLIDAY BASH
The Lakengren Entertainment Committee is having a Teen Holiday Bash on Friday, December 19 from 7:00 -11:00 PM. There will be a DJ, sandwich food and desserts. For more information call Alma Warner at (513) 617-1709.
NEW YEARS EVE PARTY
For a safe and fun New Years Eve Party, the Christmas Lights Committee is again having a New Years Eve Party at the festively decorated Lodge on Wednesday, December 31 from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM.
The music will be provided by Dalia Garcia and her husband Gary Scott who live in Oxford, Ohio. Everyone enjoyed their performance at last year’s party and we were lucky to get them back again. Her parents were able to attend along with some other close friends. If you are concerned about just having two persons supply the music, you can check out their bios at daliagarcia.com.
The CLC will also provide table decorations, hats, noise makers, set ups, coffee, and ice. Party goers can bring their own favorite beverages and snacks to share. Since the restaurant is closed and we cannot use their glasses, dishes, etc., it is suggested that persons bring the own favorite drinking glasses, mugs, steins, flutes, etc.
Get your New Years Eve group together and call in your reservations and tickets to Margaret or Paul Healy at 456-3387. The cost is $10.00 per person and tickets must be purchased by Saturday, December 27. No tickets will be sold at the door.
Dragon Meeting
The Dragons had their monthly meeting last Thursday. The treasurer’s report related that we have $1,778.34 after expenditure of about $200.00 for the Veterans Day Dinner, The recent monthly card games have enriched the treasury. The members passed a motion to provide $100.00 Marsh and Kmart cards for three needy families.
The Dragons wish to extend their condolences to the family of Gladys Preston who served on the LPOA Board. Her son, Brian, has been a Dragon. The club sent flowers to the funeral home. Dragon president, Dan McElwee, arranged for a luncheon for family members at the Lodge last Tuesday afternoon.
An agenda for 2009 events was discussed. What are really needed according to Dan are more members to accomplish the proposed projects and events for the Lakengren community. In last week’s Dragon article, it was suggested that anyone harboring and idea for a project, etc., should come to the meeting. No new member came. But if are still harboring an idea, come to the next meeting on the second Thursday of the month, January 8, 2009.
NEW YEARS RESOLUTION
Our sister lake community, Lake Lorelei, has their monthly publication called “The Legend of Lorelei.” In their recent edition Mike Behm, Board member and Committee Coordinator, published a partial list of things he would like to see at Lake Lorelei. Since we are something like family to them, his wishes may precipitate some Lakengren resident to say, “We should do that!” and volunteer to form a group to accomplish it.
His wishes are:
A great restaurant, almost pub like, adjoined by a cozy bar where “everybody knows my name;” AND
An active all-season community center, with a beach, an indoor/outdoor pool, a fitness center with men’s and women’s locker rooms with saunas, hot tubs, and steam rooms; AND
Fitness programs for seniors, adults, teens, and toddlers; AND
A summer youth program combining activities involving swimming boating. Sailing, skate boarding, movie making, crafts, field trips, etc.; AND
Year round, licensed child daycare center for working parents; AND
Daycare for senior citizens; AND
A senior housing complex, (with nursing care); AND
Golf cart lanes on our roads to facilitate their use as fuel prices rise; AND
Automatic gates serving the northern road to Blanchester and a western access to RT 131; AND
A par 3 golf course and driving range at our entrance; AND
A twelve unit B&B at a new marina facility which includes upgraded store, boat docks, brew pub; AND
I could go on but won’t.”
You may have some other ideas. Come to a LPOA Board or a meeting of the CLC, Dragons, Garden Club, Women’s Club and reveal your ideas for consideration and action. That would be a good new year’s resolution.
