Dockside -- Remember to Vote
Dockside – before you vote
Oh but fall is most certainly in the air now. Another season has slipped past us and we all have thought, “Where did it go?”
Last month I wrote about two of the political issues facing the residents of “The Gren”. I hereby have completed my civic duty to inform you of the need for you to vote in our upcoming election without interjecting opinion.
Having said that please heed that, please remember that you need to vote.
Now, I guess there is one other issue that we need to pay attention too (I’m referring to it being political in nature). So whoever is out there standing on the stump and whispering about the above ground pools issue, stand and show yourself, why hide behind others and try to sneak this one past the members of the association.
While I restrained myself from interjecting my opinion into last month’s article, I won’t with this one. This one is personal with me. Now I’m not picking a fight. But I will defend my name and family. The only thing I will say on a personal level, “that’s down right not neighborly”.
People, people, people, You MUST vote Yes for the above ground pool issue.
Now Let Me Repeat That, People, people, people, You MUST vote Yes for the above ground pool issue.
I’m no wizard with English and my high school English teacher questioned whether or not I should pursue my dream of becoming a writer. Thank God for the development of computers and spell-check. Otherwise I might have not made it.
So I don’t use any word trickery when I write. But if you do not carefully read what is being proposed and how it is worded you could make a big mistake.
Lakengren already has it in the rules that we can’t have above ground pools. This is where the word trickery comes into play. What do you think of when someone says above ground pool?
I think of the hard walled round or oval shaped pools that stand four or five feet high and usually have a deck or raised area to enter and exit the pool. Which is also what most people think of too?
Our current rule does not allow for these structures, but does allow for the now very popular vinyl collapsible pools with the blow up ring around the top. I’m sure you have seen them, they are everywhere.
They are nice, convenient, cheap and comfortable. They afford a simple opportunity to families that they might not have otherwise. I have one, I use it, my kids use it my wife uses it. We have had it for several years. It only got used twice this year because of some problems with it.
Otherwise it gives my wife and I a chance to sit at home and watch our kids enjoy some water. Oh Id have an in-ground pool if I had the means, for now I’ll enjoy what I can afford.
Ooooo but you say we have a pool. Your right we do. It’s a nice place to swim. I enjoy going there and even ran it one year. Had some ideas about what we could do to improve it. Some got done, some didn’t.
So I have nothing against the pool. I don’t go there because the atmosphere of the pool is over shadowed by some management issues. I don’t care for the way the pool is run. The current management creates an atmosphere that is less than desirable to be in. I have said my peace on that and until some changes are made I will not support the pool.
It’s not news everybody so don’t act like you don’t know what I am talking about. Many people have expressed many concerns to me about our pool. Its time something is done about it.
That is not my only problem with the pool; I think we should have access to our pool when we want to swim. The BS about noon to eight, I’m not ready to get in the water until I get done with my work and that’s usually after eight and the pool is closed. Or maybe I’d like to go for a midnight swim, been known to do that too, oops pool is closed.
So what I am telling you here is that if we vote no on the above ground pool issue you will be voting not to allow anything above one foot in depth. The little wading pools like Wal-mart sells are what we will be allowed to have.
One of the collapsible pools affords opportunity to their users. There are rules in place about them.
So don't let tricky wording cause you to make a mistake in how you feel. Vote Yes.
While I have sang praises to our current board in the past, let it be known of my disappointment in how this was handled.
You as a collective body should have used this opportunity to set precedence in creating the Policy for pools when this came up. How many of us will you have to grandfather in? You know you have to.
So I think I want to try something here. Indulge me.
We all have gotten our envelopes for voting on the issues and the candidates running for LPOA Trustees. There is a place there to write in a name for Trustee.
You all have read my column, you know I how think, write me in Tony McGuire. Its time we get this bus moving a little faster and in the right direction. Spread the word, I’ll represent the voice of the “Gren”. Let’s prepare for our future not keep spinning our wheels where we are now.
As always, I appreciate your comments and questions and I do try to respond to them all.
You can drop me a line at Docksidelpoa@aol.com
Peace to the “Gren” and pay it forward.
